Cirque d'Hiver, the circus for kids
The Cirque d'Hiver, the oldest and most famous circus in the city, came into being in 1852 thanks to the Duke of Morny, the half-brother of Emperor Napoleon III and Jacques Hittorf, the architect. A few years later, in 1859, the circus was brought to life by the flying trapeze, an act invented by LĂ©otard. In 1907, the Bouglione family took over the circus and staged big cats. In 1910, Joseph, known as Sampion Bouglione, was rescued by his son during a big cat routine. The Bouglione family has since then managed the Cirque d'Hiver, one of the top attractions in the city for kids.

Set in Bois de Boulogne in winter, it stages one of the most spectacular shows you can attend in the city. In 1971, Alexis Gruss created the Cirque Gruss. Actress Silvia Monfort and Alexis Gruss innovated by creating in Paris the first professional Circus School in France. Alexis Gruss was a master rider, acrobat on horseback, white clown, musician, creator. Alexis Gruss has passed away, but he transmitted the art of horse circus to the whole Gruss family making the show.
