Paris La Défense Arena is a polyvalent indoor sport and concert arena in La Défense business district close to Paris. It is the venue of concerts and sport events. The rugby matches of Racing 92 are held there. During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Paris La Défense Arena will host water-polo and swimming events. French swimmer Leon Marchand had the world record in the 400m individual medley and won the World Championships in that event in 2022 and 2023. He was missing an Olympic gold medal. But now the French swimmer has that too. On July 28 2024, in Paris La Défense Arena, Marchand led for the entire race and broke Michael Phelps’ Olympic record with a time of 4:02.95.

At the foot of the Grande Arche, Paris la Défense Arena opened its doors in November 2017 with a series of Rolling Stones concerts which brought together 40,000 people under its concert hall. This project was wanted and financed by Jacky Lorenzetti, President of Racing 92, who, following an architectural competition in 2010, chose Christian de Portzamparc and his team for its realization in collaboration with Vinci. Originally a rugby stadium, which became a performance hall during the study, it integrates 31,000 m² offices into its architecture.
Located in the city between four streets on the main axis of La Défense and Nanterre, it is located in view of the towers. Its exterior offers horizontal softness thanks to an envelope of glass and aluminum scales which diffuse daylight under the stretched line of its high white concrete stands. This apparent softness is surprising in contrast to the immensity that one feels when entering this room under the 40 meters of its vault.
Paris la Défense Arena can also be converted into a sports space, which hosts the Racing 92 team, with its capacity of 30,400 seats. In addition to this gauge, which makes it the largest closed performance hall in Europe and the second largest in the world for sport, the Arena is characterized by an original design – non-removable roof and mixed floor including synthetic turf covered with slabs and transforms, in eleven hours, into a performance hall – careful comfort and visibility and acoustics requiring exceptional implementation, a giant screen of 1,400 m2. The roof made up of four mega beams rests on a very large span frame – 150 meters x 110 meters. At night, the facade enveloped in scales of glass and aluminum brings infinite variations of colors into the city.
