In addition to the
Orsay museum with its impressionist masterpieces, the Marmottan museum in Paris
presents a splendid collection of paintings by Claude Monet donated by his son Michel
Monet.
It includes 65 chef-d'oeuvres with among them the Rouen cathedral,
a few Nympheas and "Impression soleil levant" (right).
This famous painting gave its
name to the Impressionism. Auguste Renoir,
Camille Pissaro, Alfred Sisley and Claude Monet are among the famous
impressionist painters.

The Nymphéas
are waterlilies which Claude Monet painted in his last years when he
lived in Giverny (in Normandy west of Paris).
As the best impressionist landscape painter, Claude Monet
