The Air and Space museum in Le Bourget

The spectacular Air and Space museum is based at Le Bourget airport half way between Paris and Charles de Gaulle airport.

Le Bourget airport is the oldest in France. Charles Lindbergh triumphantly landed there his Spirit of Saint Louis airplane on May 27th 1927. He had just achieved the first transatlantic flight ever.

The Air and Space Museum pays tribute to early 20th century air pioneers with 175 old airplanes.

You will see there the Massia-Biot glider, a 1879 bird looking flying machine, the oldest one in the world.

The 1897 Avion n°3, designed by Clement Ader, looks like a bat. Eole 50 meters take-off in 1890 was the first aiplane take-off in history.

The 1907 Voisin-Farman airplane was designed in the Voisin airplane factory in Paris, the first in the world. It accomplished the first one kilometer flight in 1908.

Have a look at the 1908 Wright airplane. The Wright brothers came from Dayton, Ohio.

They settled in Le Mans in France in 1908. There, they produced many record breaking airplanes.

The historic 1909 Blériot XI airplane was designed by Louis Bleriot. Louis Bleriot was the first ever to cross the channel between France and England.

Roland Garros, a French air pioneer,  flew a Bleriot plane at 4 960 meters altitude in 1912, breaking a world record.
