History of Mona Lisa

Leonardo da Vinci was born in 1452 in Vinci (picture) near Florence in Italy. He was a genius in many fields including painting, music and engineering.

In 1503, King Francois I (picture), fighting a war in Italy, was so impressed by Leonardo da Vinci that he invited him to France. Leonardo da Vinci painted Mona Lisa during his stay in France (1503 - 1506).

Leonardo da Vinci died in 1519 in Clos Luce (picture), near Amboise. Visit Clos Luce on a Loire castle tour from Paris.
