Stopping in Paris

Stopping in Paris   Chris Collins from UK   13:09   October 11, 2009
We are travelling to the Dordogne next August from England and are looking to break our journey by stopping one night in Paris on August 13th, a Friday night, We shall be travelling from Calais.

We are a family of 7 people, 2 parents and 5 children aged 20,18,17,11 and 7.

We are wondering what is the best plan as with so many of us cost is very important. We think we shall arrive on the Friday afternoon and leave mid morning on the Saturday. We would like to see the main sights, but being restricted by time, we think this would be best served by taking an evening cruise along the Seine.

We see that there are 2 main options. Staying on the outskirts of Paris and taking a bus/metro/taxi into the centre or staying in the centre. We would like bed and breakfast and we would need to know what parking facilities are available as we will have a people mover with a roof box and a bike rack on the back. We are not looking for luxury accommodation, just basic and clean.

Can you please help us by advising on the options as we would love our children to experience Paris. If the cost is reasonable, then we would plan a similar stop on the return journey on August 28th, a Saturday night.

Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Merci,

Chris and Louise Collins

Chris and Louise, as you have so little time in Paris, we definitely recommend you to stay in the city and within walking distance of a metro station. You may find affordable hotels in Paris. See our page . The idea of an evening cuise is excellent. Enjoy your stay in Paris and in Dordogne, a lovely French region.
