Le
Procope is one of these iconic Paris tourist restaurants which are fiercely debated in forums. We had lunch again today at Le Procope to check their status. The Saint-Germain des Pres area is one of the loveliest in Paris. Then, you have the much praised and so French interior. You have to know this respectable house was founded in 1686 and saw many illustrious men including Voltaire and Benjamin Franklin. The reception we got, we must say, was very good. I had asked for space by mail and the two of us were given a table for four. The paté, pork spare ribs and creme brulee, the Crozes Hermitages Syrah from Chapoutier were quite tasty. Maybe, we were lucky, but the 22 euros three course menu including bottled water served at lunchtime, was quite better than many menus served in ordinary Paris brasseries. Of course, you should try to keep to the set menu as, as always, the a la carte option is much more expensive. All in all, a pleasant experience that confirms Le Procope is a good mix of history, decor, food and service. See our page on
