I've heard there are long queues for entry to these venues but don't want to spend too much money for Paris Pass as we may not get to too many places.

Post or read replies (0)I recently acquired an antique sterling pendant from my great grandmother's belonging. On the back is engraved L. Grevin It is about two inches tall and about one inch wide in the center. Scrolls of relief around the perimeter and a nude woman with right arm extended above head and left arm seemingly balancing a child or puppet . Left leg bent and that knee raised. Any thoughts? I know that the family (great grandfather for sure) visited the 1900 Exposition Universelle. I also have a souvenir pin featuring the Entree Principale Would something purchased at the Museum offered engraving? If so, is there a person associated with that initial. L. Grevin?? Thanks for any input you might have. Karla Prickett Salina Kansas United States

Don’t miss the illuminations on the Champs Elysees (from November 21st to January 11th). They are complemented by a great Christmas Market in between Place de La Concorde and Champs Elysees Clemenceau metro stations. If you want to see Paris illuminations, the Paris Christmas Light Tour by Openbus includes the Champs Elysees and other illuminated streets of Paris. If you have 5 hours, the visit of Vaux le Vicomte Castle with Christmas decoration is highly recommended. Pariscityvision has many interesting combinations for New Year’s Eve. Finally, if you can stay longer in Paris, Paris Winter Sales start on January 9th at 8am and will last five weeks. Expect queues at most shopping venues on the 9th. Have a great time in Paris.

Post or read replies (1)On Septembre 15th and 16th, almost every sight worth your attention will be open to visits in Paris. A rare occasion to see many great sights. Our advice: don't go to the Elysees Palace or other very famous sights as you will stay in queue for hours. The City of Paris gives you the list of participating sights per arrondissement (in french). Enjoy your visits.

On the 56th floor of Tour Montparnasse, this famous restaurant with a view of the Eiffel Tower reopened after 11 months of renovation work. We just tested it. On the minus side, the decoration is a little bit grey. We would like more color. On the plus side, you have the combination of the best view of the Eiffel Tower and Paris, affordable set menus of good quality at lunch time (38 euros for a 3 course set menu) and good service. We are glad to see that Ciel de Paris has not changed and is still offering a spectacular Paris experience at an affordable price. Ciel de Paris is also open for breakfast and teatime. Don't hesitate. Ciel de Paris is the most affordable Paris restaurant with a view.

They also have list of restaurants, hotels etc. in on the map. And, the cool thing is that they have language help too if you are going to a foreign country and you don't know the language. Post or read replies (1)We went yesterday on a Burgundy wine tour. Burgundy wine country is producing top quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. A lovely region, it is very secretive. That’s why we chose to go on a private tour with François Gimeno, a local expert guide. Taking the TGV train in Paris at 7.23am, we were picked up by Francois in Dijon at 8.58. We really had a great day : Francois drove us on the Burgundy trails with fantastic views of famous vineyards and villages: Chassagne-Montrachet, Chambolle Musigny, Clos de Vougeot, Vosne-Romanee, Romanee-Conti. We had a wonderful lunch at Cellier Volnaysien and fantastic wine tastings at Domaine Rion and Jobart-Morey. Francois put us back on the train in Beaune at 6.39pm. We were back in Paris at 9.07pm. If you like wine and want to see a bit of France, go on a Burgundy wine tour.

Ciel de Paris is a good contender. You have to wait its reopening in April. We went yesterday to Les Ombres on top of Quai Branly Museum. It may be it : good food, georgeous Eiffel Tower view. Terrace in summer. On the downside, a little noisy and average service. We paid 150 euros for three. Stick to the set menu and entry wine, otherwise, it becomes quite expensive. Altogether, an affordable Paris restaurant with the best view of the Eiffel Tower. See our selection of Paris restaurants with a view.

This lovely restaurant near Sainy Germain des Prés offers cheaper menus of traditionnal french food for lunch, and especially a "Formule Midi" that I recommend to you. The place is very nice and looks like an old fashion parisian bistrot. However, some dishes seems to bo be very expensive, maybe because of the location on this restaurant.
Post or read replies (0)I went last week to the restaurant Le Procope which you recommend on your website. For me, young man of the freshest generation, it was an experience I will not forget soon. What for a great feeling it was to touch Rousseau's and Voltaire's desks, which seemed, as an irony of the fate, to be starring at each other upon the big stairs of the first floor! The food, well, was good, but not as good as what you'll find in another place like Ze Kitchen Gallery. But you don't come here first for the food, rather for the gold ceiling, the glasses on the walls, Verlaine's absinthe and Napoleon's citation - and maybe to show it to a lady with green eyes and an high interest in beautiful things!

Post or read replies (1)We went today to La Tour d'Argent to check this famous restaurant near Notre Dame. As most high end restaurants in Paris, they have an affordable set menu at lunchtime. For 65 euros, we ate pike dumplings, roasted duckling with apricots and finished with chocolate and raspberries matchstick with fresh ginger. With half a bottle of excellent Pauillac at 47 euros, we paid 189 euros for two very good classical french meals. But that was La Tour D’Argent : one of the most famous restaurants in Europe, a lovely location on the Seine river banks, great reception and service, the magnificent dining room and the extraordinay Paris view turned our meal into a memorable event. Thank you, André Terail and all the staff, to maintain the tradition of good food and friendly service at this extraordinary restaurant while allowing ordinary people to benefit from it. Frederic, the guide, was quite knowledgeable and made every effort to turn our day into a great day. After a 90 minute ride, we were in front ot the stunning Rheims Cathedral, one of the architectural and spiritual marvels of France, and visited it. We then headed off to Mutigny, a small village in the Marne valley, to visit the cellars of Zimmerlin, a family Champagne wine grower. We tasted their Champagne brut and Rose. We then had lunch at La Cave a Champagne in Epernay, also in the Marne valley. We had there a good meal including one of the best roasters in wine, a traditional french dish, we ever ate. We then headed off to the cellars of Moet and Chandon, one of the most prestigious Champagne brands. The visit of the 28 kilometer long underground galleries with their 90 million aging Champagne bottles is memorable. We ended the day with the grand tasting of Moet et Chandon Brut Imperial, served by superbly dressed waiters. Add to it the nice weather and the rolling hills of Champagne. We had a wonderful tour. Highly recommended.

The restaurant occupies an old water mill in a lovely and very quiet valley of Normandy 90 minutes from Paris by car. We had lunch on the sunny terrace alongside the river. The service was very friendly . We took the 3 course menu for 35 euros and it was good (the two course menu costs 25 euros). After lunch, we drove 15 minutes back to the house of Monet in Giverny which we visited. All in all a fantastic and very relaxing afternoon. ParisVision includes a lunch at Moulin de Fourges in their Giverny Versailles one day tour. Certainly a good idea and a great tour altogether.

Fortunately, having been around in Paris for so long, we have a few good addresses. We chose l’Autobus imperial in Les Halles district. The cook has changed since we last came. The quietness of the lovely 1910 interior, the nice service and the quality of the meal were perfect. We paid 40 euros each for a three course meal, a bottle of Macon blanc and coffee. We were nicely offered brandy. There is a set menu starting at 13.5 euros. Frankly, l’autobus imperial is a hidden treasure. Rush to it. See our Paris restaurant selection.

Post or read replies (1)Le Procope is one of these iconic Paris tourist restaurants which are fiercely debated in forums. We had lunch again today at Le Procope to check their status. The Saint-Germain des Pres area is one of the loveliest in Paris. Then, you have the much praised and so French interior. You have to know this respectable house was founded in 1686 and saw many illustrious men including Voltaire and Benjamin Franklin. The reception we got, we must say, was very good. I had asked for space by mail and the two of us were given a table for four. The paté, pork spare ribs and creme brulee, the Crozes Hermitages Syrah from Chapoutier were quite tasty. Maybe, we were lucky, but the 22 euros three course menu including bottled water served at lunchtime, was quite better than many menus served in ordinary Paris brasseries. Of course, you should try to keep to the set menu as, as always, the a la carte option is much more expensive. All in all, a pleasant experience that confirms Le Procope is a good mix of history, decor, food and service. See our page on beautiful Paris restaurants.

To find them, we read many reviews and test many restaurants. The result is our selection of Paris restaurants. We went today to the famous Gallopin brasserie. Founded in 1874, it has the lovely mahogany walls and stainglasses of the great restaurants of this time in Paris. The waiters are superbly dressed. The prices are moderate at lunch. We paid 64 euros for two (two course menu and 50 cl of good Gamay from the Loire valley). The desert was very good, but the main course was average. Altogether a good address, if you are close by. But Gallopin won’t make it to our list of the best restaurants in Paris.

The interior is spectacular: the 1000 m2 restaurant room, its painted pillars and cupola are beautiful. The restaurant is at the same time quiet and very busy, urban and confortable. The waiters are friendly and service is fast. The food is traditional French brasserie food with much from the sea. The prices are quite reasonable as the 30 euro menu is always served. One of the best parisian experience of food, beauty and city life combined. See our selection of beautiful restaurants.

I am just throwing out a whole bunch of questions for now. Post or read replies (2)Good news for Paris lovers. A new company called FcomFrance is starting low cost bus tours from Paris to Versailles on April 4th. Managed by top Paris professionals, FcomFrance charges 39 euros for the tour from Paris to Versailles including transport from Paris Louvre to Versailles, Versailles Palace ticket, Versailles Palace audioguide and no queing. Don't anymore take the RER metro to Versailles, do the long walk to the Palace and wait in line. You would not only waste hours of your precious time, but not even save much money. See the website. Have a great time in Versailles, the most spectacular Palace in the world..

Post or read replies (1)The Jules Verne restaurant is one of the most famous restaurants in Paris. At 125 meters above the ground and on the second floor of the Eiffel tower, the Jules Verne is undoubtedly the most scenic restaurant in Paris. As much is said, good or bad, these days about the Jules Vernes, we went there yesterday. The day in Paris was cold and snowy. It was one of these rare days when the tourists don’t queue up at the Eiffel Tower. The Jules Verne restaurant was not completely full, which is unusual. You normally have to book long in advance. Pay attention to the fact that it is hard to cancel a reservation. If you don’t show up, you will be charged the meal. The private entrance at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, the spectacular private lift to the second floor, the reception are impecable. The restaurant is split into three cosy and medium size dining rooms. Make sure you book a table near the window as the view is breathtaking. The service is French style and first class. The meal was altogether very good and we enjoyed the selection of Bourgogne and Bordeaux wines. The Jules Verne restaurant is now managed by Alain Ducasse, one of the best French cooks and there is no compromise with quality, which is great for such a touristic place. At lunch time, you can choose the 85 euros three course menu. The three glasses wine selection that goes with it costs 40 euros. This is a high price, but compared with other Paris restaurants, it is all in all really worth it. We would recommend to go for lunch as the dinner is much more expensive. Go to the Jules Verne restaurant for a great occasion and book long in advance. See our selection of restaurants with view

Post or read replies (0)We are travelling to the Dordogne next August from England and are looking to break our journey by stopping one night in Paris on August 13th, a Friday night, We shall be travelling from Calais. We are a family of 7 people, 2 parents and 5 children aged 20,18,17,11 and 7. We are wondering what is the best plan as with so many of us cost is very important. We think we shall arrive on the Friday afternoon and leave mid morning on the Saturday. We would like to see the main sights, but being restricted by time, we think this would be best served by taking an evening cruise along the Seine. We see that there are 2 main options. Staying on the outskirts of Paris and taking a bus/metro/taxi into the centre or staying in the centre. We would like bed and breakfast and we would need to know what parking facilities are available as we will have a people mover with a roof box and a bike rack on the back. We are not looking for luxury accommodation, just basic and clean. Can you please help us by advising on the options as we would love our children to experience Paris. If the cost is reasonable, then we would plan a similar stop on the return journey on August 28th, a Saturday night. Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Merci, Chris and Louise Collins

Most sights of interest will be open to the public whole day. Avoid the most famous ones where the queues can be very long. It is almost impossible to get a list of all the sights. Our recommendation: you can rent a Velib bicycle to go from sight to sight. Enjoy your week end in Paris.
